Okinawa is beautiful, and that is the problem. The flowers in these photographs grow beside caves and cliffs where the Pacific War ended for tens of thousands of people. On Gadeokdo, off Busan, I went looking for what Okinawa taught me to see: how a place keeps a war after the people who remember it are gone.
